We are professional gardeners.

We like getting all mucky, using our muscles, knowing which plants are weeds, and how to prune your shrubs. We find it immensely satisfying to help our plants grow to their full potential over the seasons. We know all the dirty gardener jokes too.

Maintenance

There is no such thing as a maintenance-free garden but Gardens in the City can do the work for you, leaving you free to appreciate your professionally well-groomed garden.

Our high-quality results are a combination of horticultural knowledge, skilled teamwork, and thorough hand weeding to remove weed roots. Pride in our profession is reflected in our detail-oriented, customized and responsible service.

The cost of maintenance is based upon the size of your garden as well as the amount of work involved. If you prefer, we can come to your garden only once to make it beautiful for a special occasion, or we can visit as often as you like. We would be happy to give you an estimate based on labour costs and materials.

We offer a variety of services to suit your garden and your budget:

# Spring Cleanup
Scheduled April 1st to 30th to refresh the garden after winter. This is the perfect time to add compost and mulch to your garden to improve the soil

# Planting Annuals:
After we’re sure the frost is over for the season, we can plant your annuals. Annuals give you a chance to change your seasonal colour scheme — one year restrained and elegant; the next flamboyant.

# Summer Pruning:
Some shrubs, for example, lilacs, should be pruned after their spring bloom. Don’t worry, we can tell you what would work best for your shrubs.

# Regular Summer Maintenance:
Scheduled May 1st to the end of September. Hedge trimming, shearing, deadheading, mulching, and hand weeding are some of the services we can provide. We typically schedule bi-weekly or monthly visits depending on your garden’s requirements.

# Fall Cleanup:
Scheduled from Oct 15 to Dec 1 to prepare the garden for winter. Consider leaving at least a portion of your yard as is for the winter. Fallen leaves, spent flowers, and dried ornamental grasses all provide winter shelter for the tiny creatures in our gardens. We advise always cleaning up plant material that will cause a problem – such as leaves infected with powdery mildew – but encourage leaving some other materials to provide habitat for wild pollinators.

# Planters & Urns:
Seasonal pots and urns give us a yet another chance to be creative — we love doing them. Take a look at our portfolio to see some beautiful examples.
