MASSAGE THERAPY
Massage therapy is defined as the manipulation of the soft tissue and joints of the body for therapeutic purposes. In Ontario massage therapy is a regulated profession in which the practitioners have 2200 hours of training at an approved school, after which we have to pass a certification exam set by our governing body, the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. To maintain our licences we are assessed regularly by a Peer Assessor, to whom we have to provide proof of continuing education.

But massage therapy is also an ancient healing art, found in all cultures through history, based on the universal human need for touch. The Swedish techniques we learned at massage school, which were codified over a hundred years ago in Europe, are only a jumping-off point for each therapist as we intuitively and moment-by-moment explore what works best for each client.

REFLEXOLOGY
Reflexology consists of the stimulation of points, commonly on the feet, which through the nervous system affect the rest of the body. Reflexology as it is now taught was actually used by physicians in the early part of the last century! There is very little research on reflexology; however in our experience it is often very effective for insomnia, constipation, migraines and fluid retention. A reflexology treament is generally very relaxing.

CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY
Craniosacral therapy is a series of techniques, taught widely in recent times by John Upledger of the United States, that work with the fascia (connective tissues) of the body in a subtle way to correct imbalances, address scarring and improve energy flow.

ADVANCED MANUAL THERAPY
Advanced Manual Therapy consists of many different subtle bodywork techniques, including craniosacral therapy, muscle energy, BodyTalk, visceral manipulation and other techniques in order to diagnose and treat all the different systems of the body, i.e. circulatory, nervous, lymphatic and musculo-skeletal. It is a holistic approach to treatment. Somewhat similar to osteopathic work, it is especially useful for treating complex conditions.
