SERVICES

I offer caring treatments to my clients to help them relax, decrease tension, stiffness and pain. In my practice, I use a variety of methods proven to be effective, such as Swedish massage, aromatherapy, hot stone treatments as well as deeper muscular and soft tissue work.

Swedish/Relaxation Massage

Irina Marukhnyak is a registered massage therapist from Toronto offering Swedish massage.
The principle of Swedish massage is to manipulate the superficial layers of muscles and connective tissue. Being the most popular treatment in the Western world, it aims to balance muscle tone, increase oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles.

It is relaxing, yet it can still facilitate many other therapeutic benefits. It uses movements called “Swedish techniques”, such as effleurage, kneading, rocking, frictions, or many others. They are not invasive techniques and should be pain free if no dysfunction is present.

This type of massage is best suited for your first massage session, it allows me to assess your tissues, so that I have a general impression of what tissues are affected, and what techniques are best suited to be used, based on your preference of pressure/depth.

Deep Tissue/Therapeutic Massage

Deep tissue massage focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff neck, low back tightness, and sore shoulders.

Deep tissue massage techniques are more specific and work layer by layer through connective tissue and muscles down to the deepest available layers to change posture and create freedom of movement.

Hot Stone Massage

Water-heated basalt stones are used to intensify the manipulation of soft tissue during massage. The idea of a hot stone massage is to use an iron-rich type of rock that holds heat and can transfer it to certain parts of the body. It improves the circulation of the nervous system, encourages healthy blood flow, and helps relax those tired, stressed out muscles.
The stones are usually heated to the right temperature by an electrical heater unit. Implemented with the right pressure and in the right places these hot rocks ensure a state of pure, soothing relaxation.

Aromatherapy Massage

During a treatment I use essential oils that are derived from plants to affect your mood and alleviate pain. Each essential oil has different healing properties. For example, some calm while others energize.

I will help you choose the right oil that is particularly suited to your needs. All oils are customized to promote wellness and de-stressing, and during your aromatherapy session I will utilize organic essential oils to encourage deep revitalization.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is ideal prior to and following athletic activities.
It can help prevent injuries to the soft tissues and joints, as well as facilitate repair of overexerted or strained muscles by increasing blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, which will help reduce swelling, muscle fatigue as well as muscle tension.

Myofascial Release Therapy

Myofascial release, or soft tissue mobilization, is a therapy used to release tension stored in the fascia. Fascia is sheets of fibrous tissue that encase and support muscles, separating them into groups and layers. Following trauma, the fascia and muscles may shorten restricting blood flow. The techniques used in myofascial release relax muscle tension and break up fascial adhesions.

Trigger Point Release Therapy

Trigger points are tiny, tight nodules that form in muscles causing referred pain. Sometimes myofascial pain can be linked to one or more trigger points. The treatment goals include alleviating muscle spasms, improving circulation, and releasing trigger points.
The therapist applies direct momentary pressure to a trigger point to cause its release. During the massage, the therapist may return several times to a stubborn trigger point to elicit its release.

Pre & Post Natal Care (Pregnancy Massage)

Therapeutic massage can ease the physical discomforts, stress, and anxiety many women experience during pregnancy.

It can help reduce edema in the extremities, improve circulation and reduce spasms in tight overworked muscles, improve posture and restful sleep, and help women feel nurtured.
