I must begin by saying that my passion for dance began by hearing my father, Raymond Thurton, an engineer & jazz musician practicing in our home. To my best recollection, this sparked my interest in music composition and what accompanies it. I studied percussion and wind instruments as well as a music composition program in high-school.
By grade 8, I was using all school breaks to find an open hallway to practice dance. Daily I would source locations such as community centres, friends’ homes and subway stations to practice my craft. Through training at community centres, I met international competitor “Skittlez” of Supernaturalz Breakdance Crew (Canada’s Top Breakdance Crew). He took me under his wing and introduced me to an international caliber of competitive dance. 3 years later at age 15 I became the youngest member of Supernaturalz and was given the opportunity to compete internationally and begin my dance career.
Simply Swagg Dance Studio is a culmination of my skill in choreography, instruction and competitive preparation. After 10+ years of traveling, competition and teaching I am driven by my desire to share my experiences and knowledge passed onto me from the original generation. My goal with Simply Swagg Dance Studio was to create a respected, disciplined and non-judgmental environment for youth and adults to learn the craft.
